The Student Soldiers This is the story of the Aberdeen University Company of the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders in the Great War of 1914-1918. The Company was formed in 1898 and this book charts its story to August 1914 when it gaily went off to war. The training at Bedford, the grim trench warfare in the Ypres Salient in 1915, and the final curtain for the Company at Hooge on 25 September 1915 are all recounted. This is not a war book of grisly realism but it does tell the story of how healthy youth faced up to the madness of war.
